CREATE YOUR PERFECT HOME WORKSPACE WITH FOUR EASY STEPS

Still working from home? Maybe you’ve come to enjoy no commute, or maybe you’re exhausted with the endless groundhog days. Either way if you spend a little time setting up your workspace so you’re best positioned to stay motivated, inspired & positive working from home. Inject a little ‘you’ into your space. Get started with my TOP FOUR…

1.   BRING THE OUTSIDE IN

For those of you who know Hannah & Co. Design well, I’m forever harking on about bringing the beauty & wonder of the outside in. But it’s the perfect compliment to any space to feel closer to nature.

An abundance of greenery makes the heart sing.

An abundance of greenery makes the heart sing.

  • Add a pot plant of greenery or a succulent to your desk or your office space.

  • Take a walk in your garden or up the street and collect some clippings.

  • Pop them in vases or any vessels you fancy; think drinking glasses, old jars, Italian drink soft drink bottles…. Be creative. Try an artful display of three.

  • If you’re lucky enough to have flowers, add some colour too.

  • Dot the greenery around the house - your bedside, by the kitchen sink, the bathroom. The more the better.

  • You’ll be adding the beauty of nature & improving the air quality

  • Remember to take care of them with fresh water daily.

2.  SURROUND YOURSELF WITH INSPIRATION + POSITIVITY

Add some personal, meaningful touches to your walls.

  • Photographs of friends & family, holidays (from the travelling days!) or special occasion pics when happy memories were created are the perfect way to add immediate personality and interest.

  • Your favourite motivating & inspiring quotes. Pinterest is great for this. One of my favourites is “You’re a human sparkler you are”; a card from a dear friend.

  • Create a canvas or print your images - simply upload them online. Camera House does quality prints. See HERE for a full review of all the online printing options from Fat Mum Slim.

  • Create an artful display of a few photos, dotted amongst some inspiring quotes or postcards or cards you’ve received, a poem or even try making your own artwork. The options are endless.

3.   CLEAR SPACE, CLEAR MIND.

A good declutter is productivity’s best friend. Superstar Kat at The Organised Housewife has the best TIPS for decluttering. My headlines would be:

  • Clear your desk of everything, give it a good wipe down.

  • Organise your space so only the essentials are in reach - your laptop/ computer, notepad, penholder, cuppa/water.

  • Find a place for everything else. Organised in like items, in containers, baskets, zip lock bags, bound with ribbon or elastic. Whatever tickles your fancy and whatever way makes sense to you. Throw out what you can & reorganise what you can’t.

  • Take the opportunity to organise your books and mags. Perhaps some fun with colour blocking or artfully arranged with other treasures from your travels, your kids or your childhood. See image below for some ideas.

4.   COMFORT IS KING

You want to be as comfortable as possible.

  • Seek natural light. Can you move your desk to be under the window? Open the blinds, open the window, let the goodness in.

  • Keep a lamp for task lighting. No straining those precious eyes. All the retailers have a myriad of options that can be home delivered or pinch one from somewhere else in the house.

  • Yes Pinterest is full of images of fancy chairs but above all, comfort & flexibility for your chair is key. Think back support (add a cushion if you need), arm support, and adjustable everything if you can. For ergonomics you want your eyes level with your screen, your elbows supported or level with your typing height and your feet flat on the floor.

Ok go forth and create your best space. If you’ve others in your house, do it together to freshen up your workspaces. Need any help getting your home office or space singing? Get in touch.
